the most important meal of the day

October 23rd 2008 15:10
TAPSILOG - Tapa, Sinangag, Itlog (Beef Tapa, Fried Rice and Egg)

i should say that i am a good example of a person who's always skipping the most important meal of the day. Unintentionally, i leave my breakfast plate unnoticed just because i needed to go to school right away. i did this since high school or probably even during half of my grade school years.

some think of it that skipping breakfast is even useful for losing weight but according to researchers, skipping breakfast will cause you otherwise. there is a higher percentage for people who skip meals that are gaining weight than that of their counterparts.

another issue of skipping breakfast is that it is the main source of our energy for the whole day. a day i have eaten my breakfast is noticeably different from those days i didn't. i could say that i'm much alert and probably more energetic at times i have eaten my first meal. it serves as energy booster.

either situation, it goes to show that breakfast is surely the most important meal of the day.

and since then, i started never forgetting about my breakfast. if i need to hurry, i make sure that i could grab a snack such as cold coffee and cookies from the store and eat it before the bell rings or i pack my breakfast and eat it at school. in that way, i overcame my skipping of the most important meal of the day.

Why dip?

September 19th 2008 15:13
I began wondering why it became a nature of humans to look for a dip on any food they get their hands on. Snacks, meat, even soups have corresponding sauces or dips, but why?

dip your heart out!

They say that the dominant purpose of dips are to camouflage the current food into another taste. Some foods do not even acquire the taste which leads for an individual to look for the taste that he's longing for. Most Filipinos cannot live a day without having a dip or sauce at the side of the table. Soup meals here in the Philippines are usually accompanied by fish sauce, soy sauce or vinegar. Other Filipino dishes are sometimes eaten with the Filipino "bagoong" (shrimp paste). It is in our culture never to start eating without finalizing the perfect accompaniment to the dish on the dining table.

The negative thought of accompanying a meal with such a dip, if you like tasting different kinds of dishes at a time, is that its taste stays longer than usual especially if it has garlic and onions on it. As a food-taster, your aim should be to taste different foods and compare one from the other at one seating and you would not have accomplished this with a dip at snackside. But though, dips satisfy an individual's taste at a personal attack or say, at his own tastebud spirit.

Why not try making your own dip today? And make it your own style. Surely you will get the hang of it for a long time.

Mee Sua

September 16th 2008 13:29
It's been like everyday that my mom served this Chinese noodle soup at home alongside to every fried viand she cooks. My mom used to tell me that aside from ice cream, she's been eating a lot of this kind of noodles during her pregnancy with me. But even though, I merely have eaten them during my childhood. It was just recently that I've tasted it for myself, for real.

Mee Sua or miswa is a Chinese noodle. It is very thin and very soft when cooked. It's been eaten for several Asian countries like China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, and of course the Philippines.

Mee Sua Noodle Soup

Asian belief imposes that eating Mee Sua prolongs your life (this originated from Chinese traditions) for the reason that the noodles being long symbolized the prolonging of existance. In Taiwan, this is the very reason why they almost always serve Mee Sua in festivities, birthdays and other important occasions - to prolong what is celebrated by then.

For taste-test freaks, Mee Sua Noodle is my recommended first choice of tasting if you're in to Asian Noodle Soups.

KFC Urban Legend

September 14th 2008 16:11
... KFC!

Just outside one of the exit gates of our university, there is a branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken or as we, filipinos call it, "Kapag Fried Chicken" (when it's fried chicken). Eventually when we already know what to do but eat, we do not stop loving the taste of KFC meals.

YEMA

September 3rd 2008 12:08
YEMA. Again, another Filipino delicacy. This is a sweet pastry made out of peanuts. Simply made by grinding the peanuts resulting to the creamy appearance of it(it's because of the oil that the peanut itself acquires) and then mixed with proper amount of condensed milk. Letting it dry, there you have your Yema.

This afternoon, I invited my best friends over at my place for some great time. We bought this very inviting Yema Roll at a Shopwise Grocery near our previous destination. Yeah, inviting. Sometimes, the physicalk presentation of such food really entices me to eat them right away

Caramel Pastillas Sundae

September 2nd 2008 09:47
KICKBACK. This is the term I call the money I get from my Dad when I come to visit them in their place. That don't usually happen because I live in my mom's place. Anyway, when there is kickback, I tend to treat my classmates out to lunch or meryenda(snack time).

Yesterday, I treated my friends in the nearest Jolibee Restaurant (which is, duhh.. beside one of the university's gate.). I chose to eat their sweet Caramel Pastillas Sundae.

Eat Out STRESS

August 28th 2008 08:00
Almost everyone just complains about becoming a working stiff and their jobs as vital factors of the evolution of stress. But hey, sometimes stress can be eaten out.

Chilies, Pepper,Curry Powder... these are the most popular fiery factors that sometimes you would just dive in to or otherwise, avoid eating. Spicy foods or dishes that contains these famous spices have this awakening thingy that pushes the taster to drop his spoon and fan her open mouth by the hand. BUT. Little did we know that spicy foods can lessen the stress factors of the lives of the working stiff people or even the problematic sleepless nights

RICE series- Recipe 1

August 19th 2008 10:14
Even though there are lots of Western or other culture-influenced meals right now that is served for dinner, still, and probably, nothing would beat the fulfilling taste and satisfying aura of the rice.

Usually, people prepare a viand (or may be various) and then partnered into rice. But have you ever thought of splurging into different kinds of foodies and use them WITH rice? You'll have fun with it because you know it would fit your tastebuds. Why not if you made it yourself? This idea must be unleashing your own self through making it your very own

TORTITOS BLACK

August 10th 2008 15:04
The title would sound a little too not understandable. Tortitos Black is a a brand of a cookie. It is not very popular, not even in the Philippines. But it's taste.. God, you just have to taste for yourself!

I was then looking for a something to eat in the grocery store on my way home and I only have a budget of 20 pesos for snacks. I started looking then for something I haven't tasted before and is also fit for the only money I have in my pocket. I looked for the cookies section of the grocery and learned about this new brand of cookie - Tortitos Black. It was less than my budget so took it and give it a try. Fortunately for me, I didn't go home with any regret upon buying it. It's one wonderful snack
