spicy sampaloc candies

July 21st 2008 09:25
sampaloc and the apples on a fruit tray
the sampaloc fruit is being made as a candy and is best for snack time

Sampaloc is a tamarind fruit in Filipino and it is processed to become candies that pleases buyers more than eating the fruit itself. Most Filipinos love to eat these sampaloc candies as a snack and it is best to eat anytime. I wasn't one of them before, though. I thought that they were too sour and takes too much effort to eat because you still need to take the seed off it. I wasn't fund of eating these candies.

Yesterday, after I got home from school, I decided to check what foods are in our snack bar at home. I noticed a tupperware filled of sampaloc candies. At first I just stared at it, and then eventually something led me to take a bite.

Detailing what happened, I took a pinch of a piece of candy inside the tupperware, smelled it then put it in my mouth. And then... SLAP! I never thought a sampaloc candy can be this tasty! It is definitely not an ordinary sampaloc candy because it was spicy and an ordinary one is too sour with a little sweet taste. SHOCKS! I thought then that I was slowly falling in love with the spicy sampaloc candy. I held on to it while I was watching TV, writing my articles and even while creating my previous post yesterday. I was really having fun eating it!

From then on, I asked my sister to buy me more packs of these sampaloc candies, the same spicy ones. I am still enjoying eating it whatever I do... to this very moment.

Hi -- I've sent you an email already but sometimes they don't get through. Would you like a domain for this blog? If so send an email to charles -at- orble.com (change the -at- into a @) and he will be able to set one up for you.

You may also need to add the email address admin -at- orblemail.com to your address book in order to receive Orble admin emails in the future.

Thanks,
Jon.

That actually sounds interesting...I would like to try some sampaloc candies. I`d like to know if there is a recipe for this.
